The town began to thrive and in 1816 changed the name to Mt.Vernon, after George Washington's home. The early settlers came to Mt.Vernon in 18 and called their settlement McFaddin's Bluff. Employees that live locally result in higher employee retention and engagement with the school district. Mount Vernon is located on the Ohio River in the southwest corner of the state in Posey County. Ideally, new staff will be able to live within the district’s boundaries. With the turnover in educators around the state, the local schools will likely see an increase in new employees. ![]()
